WHEN SPORTS AND LEISURE PAIR UP

Four races and 5-star service

Ultra Trail Raidlight Beachcomber (UTRB) is back, with its unique mix of challenging and enticing races for all categories of trailers, paired with a 5-star service and organisation. The fifth edition is scheduled for 28 and 29 July 2018 and will again take participants along spectacular tracks for a unique experience of Mauritius in the wild.

The competition gets a revamp in 2018 with a new race layout for the Trail des 7 Couleurs which will now be a challenging 100-kilometer ultra-trail. The courses for the well-established 47kms, 25kms and 10kms races will remain unchanged.

Similarly unchanged is the 5-star label of UTRB, which makes it even more unique and attractive to local and international runners and accompanying guests alike. The participants’ welcome and support, the track marking, supplies and race assistance, all adhere to the highest standards for service that contribute to Beachcomber hotels’ reputation. Don’t be mistaken to think that you are dreaming wide-awake on being served by a chef on the buffet-like supply stations…

All the trails of UTRB are an invitation to discover the most breathtaking parts of Mauritius, across fields and forests and along mountainous paths, atop cliffs or on pristine beaches. Expert technicians have devised all tracks. An efficient and experienced team – the one that has made of the first four editions of UTRB a success – will similarly perform race management, monitoring and assistance.

Maxime Cazajous, official ambassador of the UTRB 2018: From rugby to mountain running

It is in 2011 that 37-year old Maxime Cazajous became known to the world of trail and so, after having spent several years playing and practising rugby at Coarraze-Nay in the South-West of France. It was indeed in 2011 that he completed his first trail. On the 12 races he lined up for, he hit 11 podiums with six victories and finished 12th at the Trail des Templiers – the most elevated trail in France which gathers the top national trailers. This achievement led him to join Team Brooks with which he competed for the 2012 season.

Since late 2011, Maxime Cazajous is advised and trained by Nicolas Boyer, former French champion and vice-world champion of rowing. Boyer specialises in the preparation of rowers for the Olympic Games and world championships but he is also a triathlon athlete.

Last year, Maxime Cazajous won Montan’Aspe (52 kms - 3500m - D+/-), the Raid Ouzom (MTB + Tractor, 60km long with 2400m +/- of elevation gain), the Bidarray BK85 – Baztandarrak Trail (85km with 6500m +/-of elevation gain), the Grand Raid des Pyrénées (82 kms – 5300m – D+/-) and Corrude à 2 (27 kms – 2400m – D+/-). He abandoned the race after he fell on the 110th kilometer on the Diagonale des Fous, and so, after leading the race during 100 kilometers straight.
